At Borough Furnace, a metal casting studio in Syracuse, waste vegetable oil is burned at 2700 degrees in the Skilletron, a barrel-sized metal melting furnace to melt scrap iron. This process requires low energy consumption and only uses recycled iron. Borough Furnace’s line of made-to-order cast-iron skillets come pre-seasoned with organic flax seed oil and ready to use straight out of the box.
